A new name for LambdaRogue?

People in the poll thread at roguetemple stated that the name "LambdaRogue" is not a very good one.

So, in respect to the game itself and the story, which name would fit better to this game?

Let me hear your ideas.

new name???

Don't change the name. The game has been released and its name is already recogniseable. Imagine they changed the title of the movie "Avatar" right now, when everyone has seen it. "Big Blue Gang? What the hell is that movie?"...

Well ... As some guys say:

"I think one of the main reasons why I have not played it yet is the name. It strongly suggests to me that it is some clone of Rogue written in Lisp (Lisp is based on Lambda Calculus, and one of the most important operations in Lisp is named lambda), i.e., it is not interesting except for Lisp fans." (Z)

"And Lambda Rogue has a fairly uninspiring name, to me the word lambda brings up visions of sleepy sheep, or my mathematics brains tell me something about empty sets." (corremn)

Of cource, changing a name would not solve the problem that the game obviously can't hold players over a long time. Not enough variation, too bad AI, I believe.

How about "Book of Stars"? Or something related to theme or story. There XRogue, XHack and XBand names are so unimaginative.

Mario Donick schrieb am 25.03.2010, 09:26

Yeah, Book of Stars is already the subtitle. Perhaps I should really keep it that way ... I'm a bit clueless. *sigh*

But perhaps I should overcome this phase of self-pity and continue developing. *rolleyes*

I second "book of the stars"
It's already the subtitle, as you say, so you won't be exactly changing title, just switching the subtitle and title itself wink

New name for the game

I suggest "Star-Led" smile

Mario Donick schrieb am 26.03.2010, 09:05

"Star-Led", huh? This one is pretty cool, though not totally fitting -- it could invoke expectations about some SciFi themed game.

Maybe, rewording classical "Per aspera ad astra", use "Per libris ad astra" (provided that there'll be more than one book, Book of Stars); otherwise - "Per librum ad astra"?
smile

Alex M schrieb am 29.03.2010, 20:22

Short "Ad astra" also sounds promising, however, I think many titles out there include this phrase.

per libris ad astra

This one is really really great, Alex!

OK, Mario. Happy to help!

You will be credited in the next update for the idea.

Alex M schrieb am 31.03.2010, 19:11

Mario, do you really like the new title? Will you use it instead of the current one?

Mario Donick schrieb am 31.03.2010, 20:36

I stick with "LambdaRogue: The Book of Stars", but use your suggestion as a slogan.

I have explained it here: LambdaRogue Website Updates I've also referred to you in that explanation smile

You can see the slogan on the right side of the header, you can even click on it wink
