Poll Results

Okay, thank you everybody for voting at the poll at roguetemple.

Basically, results say that 11 out of 20 people who hang around at roguetemple played the game at some time in the past. 6 people know about the game, but haven't ever tried it.

Thus, the game and my presentation of the game's features was not able to create enough interest or suspense for (continued) gaming among this group of people.

I think the user Z posted an interesting reason in the poll's thread:

"I think one of the main reasons why I have not played it yet is the name. It strongly suggests to me that it is some clone of Rogue written in Lisp (Lisp is based on Lambda Calculus, and one of the most important operations in Lisp is named lambda), i.e., it is not interesting except for Lisp fans."

In fact, there is another roguelike by some university guy who uses the simple concept of a roguelike as example for Lisp programming using that Lambda calculus. He called that game "LambdaRogue", too.

Nearly two years ago, some other guy asked if "Lambda" had anything to do with a gay rights movement in the US (such as Lambda Legal, or the Lambda Literary Awards).

None of these things had ever been in my mind when choosing that name back in 2006. I simply liked the visual appeal of the greek Lambda letter, and as I chose to have greek god names in the game, it seemed to fit.

Well then. It's just speculating, anyway. So I will post a second poll, concerning more reasons. (I could just ask here, but I want to have the anonymous numbers...)
