User Interface (Graphical Mode)

This is a short tutorial for new players, describing the basic elements of the user interface in graphical mode.

Overview

While playing you're presented five main areas: Character information, the quickbar, the minimap, the message area and (everything else) the dungeon view where all the action takes place.

Character Information

This area is shown at the top-left corner of the screen or game window. It consists of a character portrait (depending on the selected profession and sex of your character), a number indicating the current character level (bottom-left corner of the portrait) and status bars indicating divine rage, hit points, psychic points and strength. If your character is subject to status modifications, icons for every modification are shown beneath the status bars.

To see more details about your character's status, you can view the status screen. If you did not change the keybindings, this screen is called by pressing s.

Quickbar

The quickbar is used for fast access to potions, food and magic. Usually it is shown on top of the screen, but you can move it anywhere by right-clicking with your mouse.

The quickbar consists of 12 icons, each representing on of the keys F1 to F12 on your keyboard. Pressing these keys will execute the action associated with the quickbar. The icons represent the effects which will occur after pressing the key, as well as give a hint if the effect is created by a magical chant, a potion (indicated by a small blue bottle) or some food (indicated by a food icon).

While new characters come with some default bindings, you can bind your own items and spells to the quickbar. You simply have to open your inventory (press i) or your songbook (press m). Then, press one of the keys F1 to F12 and enter the number of the item or magical chant.

You can view and delete all bindings and reset the quickbar's position by pressing C.

Minimap

The minimap, in the upper-right corner of the window, shows the position of NPCs, traders and yourself. You can click the + icon in the bottom-right corner of the minimap to open a bigger map of the current dungeon level. This bigger map uses ASCII characters to represent the most important dungeon features.
