Diplomas / Ranks
In LambdaRogue 1.4, Diplomas are automatically shown in the character's status screen when their requirements are met. Every profession can achieve every diploma, it all depends on the abilities, skills and talents. This was nice, but somewhat unstructered and partly arbitrary.I removed this old system for LambdaRogue 1.5; in this version every profession has its own set of achievable diplomas, and every diploma is now more of a military rank than a, well, diploma (however, it is still called diploma, because the ranks are just the effect of the diploma which is the cause). We even have rank pins.Well, here's the hierarchy; all ranks marked with * can be obtained in my current dev version; the goal is that in the released 1.5 all ranks can be obtained, through quests or certain status combinations at level up. The first rank (Enchanter, Thief, Archer, Soldier) is the starting profession, thus it is always obtained by the player.
Enchanter|+--Mage| || +--Battlemage|+--Believer. |. +--Monk
Thief|+--Assassin*| || +--Agent|+--Master Thief*. |. +--Guild Leader
Archer|+--Hunter*| || +--Ranger|+--Marksman. |. +--Sniper
Soldier|+--Centurio*. |. +--Hastatus. |. +--Princeps. |. +--Pilus. |. +--Primus Pilus
As you can see, I still have to create quests and conditions for 14 ranks. Some of them are simply based on the status combinations (such as the "believer"-rank of the enchanter, which is based on the number of prayers of the character, while the "monk"-rank also depends on the humility value). Some others have to be obtained by solving certain quests.The soldier career differs from the others; there's only one path, but with more ranks. The soldier's ranks are taken from ancient Roman history, and if you ever had a character fighting with the Hasta (a lance), you might know, for example, what Hastatus means.

To fit these ranks into the game world better, all references for English ranks have been changed, such as "Lt. Clark" who is now called "Centurio Clavius". This also fits better to the names of the gods.Not all ranks, by the way, offer a direct bonus to the player. Some of them are just achievements one can strive for. However, some of the new quests require you to be of a certain rank, and some other ranks indeed have a bonus.If
you have an idea for a quest related to one of the ranks, let me know.
