Frostgram, Northdoom, whatever ... :-(

I've got a little problem concerning the Northdoom quest, introduced in LambdaRogue 1.4. Nothing technical; it's the story of the quest.I thought I would be creative, but obviously I wasn't. I know this now because I recently started to play World of Warcraft and read lots of texts about the Warcraft history. There I stumbled upon Frostgram, the sword which is taken by Prince Arthas and which curses him.It is exactly the same like in LR 1.4 -- you can find an old mystic sword called Northdoom, but if you decided to actually wield it you will be cursed and evil.Well, I think this is just a general cliché in human mythology, but still ... Well, the quest stays as it is (it is rather densely woven into the source of the game), but I don't want people to think that I have stolen this.

cursed sword quests

I recall a similar thing in Baldur's Gate. A guy goes wacko, kills his family and disappears. You find him and take his powerful two-handed sword. What a mistake! It's cursed, makes you go berserk and it can't be unwielded until the curse is lifted... I suppose you could dig many such examples in other games. I wouldn't call this "stealing", "borrowing", "copying" or whatever. I mean, most quests are constructed on some more or less exploited themes. Some are so common that they become a cliché. Others are decently rare. But it all comes down to using some sort of theme. It's difficult to create something that hasn't been used earlier in a different game.

Well, probably you're right ... I'm not even sure if it's really called Frostgram in WoW ... perhaps this is just the German translation of it. Baldur's Gate is nice, too ... I still have to complete that one.
